Finally on Monday I was able to work again and train( arm training only) and last night - shoulders with Bee was awesome. But tonight I will most likely be training alone and doing back.
|I cant believe it.. It is damn well March again. It seem like only weeks ago that I was so excited about the summer to come, the gorgeous early morning runs, the evening cycle rides, and hot muggy days.. Humidity is never a problem for me.. But here we are already into March, with nightinme being evident at 8.30pm and darker mornings... Gosh I am so dreading the winter.. I love the summer so much. While other people are moaning about the heat, I lap it up. The humidity is never a problem for me apart from sending my hair to frizz, but the actual heat I can handle fine.
Never mind, I guess I cant do much about it and it will be my 50th Winter so I should be getting used to it by now.
Im going to touch very briefly on chch.. What a devastating city. I feel for every single person involved in that. My 2 sisters and 1 brother still live in CHCH and have come out unscathed apart from losing personal items. There houses have cracks too but they have their lives which we are all thankful for. What a terrible situation for the whole of chch to be in.. The lives lost and the loss of one of the most beautiful city in the world. I cant say too much more. Our city is destoyed and how it will be rebuilt nobody knows at present.
While all the destruction has been going on, I have still be trying to focus on training. I really do want to compete this year as a Pro and have put on some size lately. Training hard and sometimes 2 x per day. I received my new Pro Card in the post which was awesome as it had been rumoured that I had lost it, not so, hehe, so its time to set a date and get this party started.
WEll Im about to head to work - which incidently has been busy. This week with uni back into force I have been a little quieter but it has been a nice break.
Shall get back to you all next week when I shall talk about my supplements that I get from BSc.
take care and train hard and give generously to the Chch Appeals. xxx
Normally January is full of New Year Resolution clients but this year everybody wants to do a contest. Everybody wants to look like Karen Montague. Rachael Chase or Jamie Onywu so here I am a busy lil bee doing training, body fat and programmes..
My days have been long the last few weeks and it is hard work trying to fit in training and my cardio, work, computer work, friends, and my son so I have seriously been thinking about time saving devices or time saving tactics...
Now to make you understand this is my first hour of the day minute by minute on a normal weekday -
4.30am 1st alarm goes off, stupid talk back thing which drives me insane hearing "George do you feel the economic situation is to blame for the current level of swearing in rap songs???"
4.35 Second alarm goes off - this is my phone - it has the worst alarm on it possible and I hate it too bits, almost as much as I hate Jordans Eminem alarm. I keep my mobile on the far side of the room so I have to get up to turn it off or it drives me crazier than the talk back. I stagger out of bed with eyes normally still closed and a cramped back, and stagger downstairs to turn off the
4.36 Ipod alarm which is situated beside the kettle. I switch one off, and one on, then I make my super strong coffee and turn on the computer..
4.38 - The computer is almost poked, it flickers and crackles so I stuff around with the mouse and evenutually get on facebook but resist opening anything at this stage even though the suspense is killing me. but I see 47 messages.. lots of "I LIKE" which makes me very excited LOL>>
4.40 -4.45 Spend 5 damn mins making my 2 mins oats cos I add so much egg white that it takes forever to cook - then I normally overcook it, frustratingly mix the protein powder into a paste then attempt to add into the oats + egg mound in the bowl.. shit Im a good cook.. NOT
4.46-4.55 chomp through my oats and egg mix, while reading all the fabulous comments on my status from the night before where I said "JO IS STUFFED". I had people all over the world commmenting so I choose 20 quick replys to them mostly saying "Thank you" or " I LIKE" their "I LIKE" comment. God facebook is fantastic..
5.00am Race upstairs, switch on shower, straddle toilet, pluck eyebrows at the same time, jump in shower, quick soap, quick shave, even quicker squirt with nozzle over and under, then out.. Dry body, sniff clothing test, then throw on last nights training clothes, then early morning makeover.. Use only 1/4 instead of half a cake of sheisado foundation, smear of lippi, and a good smudge of eye liner so I have that, "Ive Just had fantastic Sex All By Myself" look. Yep you all recognise that.. then bolt downstairs
5.15 Check facebook again cos I cant resist reading how the overseas people have already commented on my Likes.. and dislikes... do a quick random check on people I dont really like but have the need to stalk them, grab my phone, and my ipod ( in case I can snap a pic of one of the girls with her bra over top of her singlet, or the guy training in his pj bottoms) and lastly my super duper lip pouti lippi, in case I get pulled up by that cop again, then I bolt out the door..
5.18 Shit no car keys, Bolt upstairs again and find the car keys which could be in any one of 5 secret hiding places, locate them, then text client, "sorry, be there in 2"
5.31 Phrew, 1 min late.. Walk in the gym door smiley and saying "Good Morning everybody - Where you expecting me???????" .....
And that is just the start of my day.. When I get home from training my gorgeous and highly motivated client, I gulp another half cup of sticky thick coffee, throw on my running shoes and pretend Im a well conditioned runner running through the park behind my house. I have to pretend mainly cos there are so many guys at the park now doing pre-league or pre-rugby training and I cant just dawdle..
Anyway thinking about how to save time, and how to be more time efficient, I have been remembering how I was when I was married to my first husband and I was such an efficient lil wifey..
Even back then I used to go for my runs around 5am so what I used to do was get everything ready the night before.. that was always after I polished all the leaves on the rubber plant of an evening..
Honestly, I used to set the breakfast table after dinner the night before. No kidding..
I used to put a fresh table cloth on the table, no doubt one of the really expensive Damorne ones I saved for weeks for to put in my glory box.
I would put all the plates and utensils out, sugar and everything right down to the cereal in the plates... I would put a turned up butter plate on top of the cereal bowl to keep it fresh ( it never worked). The coffee would be in the cups, the jug would be filled and almost half switched on, and the toast would be in the toaster ready to pop down. CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT COS MY HUBBY LIKED CANNED FRUIT, I EVEN HAD THE CAN OPENER STUCK ALREADY INTO THE CAN - never opened though, but ready or not... Now sometimes hubby would throw a real spanner in the works and the conversation would go like this
"Sorry Josephine ( He would call me that when he felt he was in troube) Sorry Josephine, I have no time for breakie this morning"
"what do you mean you dont have fucking time for breakie. I set the table already"
"Im so sorry Josephine, but your've always got the table set! I need to be at Ever-not-ready Electical" at 6.15"
"What the hell am I going to do with the bread.. it has been in the toaster overnight and Im gluten intolerant. And now I have to tip the cereal back into the container or eat it myself. Youve wasted my time and ruined my life".
"Josephine, Theres alot of money at stake here - you can buy a better cereal this week to make up for it - I promise... Keep the toast and the cereal and I will have it for dinner if need be"
Of course then I would be so happy all day long cos I didnt have to worry about tea. It meant so much time up my sleeves. Just to make him happy I may of thrown a can of spagetti on to top the toast with instead of the stale cereal. That was the type of caring wifey I was back then.
So now I have been thinking seriously all day of ways to make my contest prep time a little easier and for the trainers out there who compete and have clients all day here are some of my suggestions..
1. Body Fat Measuring clients:
If body fat testing, always do the back measurement first. That way the client cant see the measurement.. When measuring during the first attempt say, "Im sorry that measurement was unbelieveable, and I need to do that again. Measure a second time....Add a big sigh....and say "umpph thats not looking good...lets try a 3rd time" ..
3rd time Lucky.. "OH dear, Im sorry to tell you but you have gained 17mm on that back measurement"
to which the client will say "OMG stop.. I dont want anymore done... Im leaving.. Ive been bad and Im going to work hard all next week". Then throws $30.00 on the desk then runs out in disgust with themselves. Now you have saved yourself 20 mins out of the 30... Time for you to do calves...
2. Training Clients.
Perform a fitness test on the client the session before. Give them the bad news by saying their fitness level is that of somebody 35 years older than themselves. Instruct them to come in 1 hour earlier prior to their session with you to do extreme cardio.. Beady eye them while you are with another client so they remain working hard, then train them with the heavist weights and hightest reps possible. They may last perhaps 10 mins then suggest they lay in the strechting area recoperating or doing abs.... You get to do some stretching and abs while they are recovering... You can can do this with 2-3 clients per week and have your abdominal training out of the way.
Anyway over the next few weeks Im going to think of more time saving ideas for you as I am about 30 weeks out from competition and feel like I am going mad already. One tip I have learnt over the last few days is:
Keep your rechargeable batteries charged.. It can be a 2-3 minute difference between a postive outcome or a frustrating disappointment....
Just for a brief breakdown I have been pretty quiet since New Year. New year was no parties, only a nice quiet picnic at Mission Bay and home not long after midnight. Pretty much my normal really. Work hours were cut down over the 2-3 weeks of xmas which made things a little difficult with fitting training in, as I had clients booked in the hours we were open. One of the girls let me train with her during her session so that worked out well for me a few times.. thank god. One day we went down to Les Mills which I loved cos it was quiet and nobody talked to me. We just trained hard and sweated heaps.
I have some brilliant clients this year for competition and heaps of new weight loss clients ( male and female) so business is booming and although I am working alot longer hours at the moment, Im hoping it will settle down soon and I can go back to having most of my evenings back...
Training is good.. Strength is up and my fitness is brilliant with all the running and cycling I have been doing.. I have ran almost every single day over the holdidays and have been loving it.. I know I have to cut it down again soon so I can add some more muscle but at the moment I shall keep it in. My carbs have stayed down over the xmas with most meals having none, or very small amount, so it has been easy to keep the weight at bay. I think I did have one week where I felt heavier and chubbier but it was leading up to xmas and xmas week when I think my muscle had gone down... Anyway that is all sorted now. With diet intact, now it is just time to cut the wine and the little habitual drinkees I have been getting accustomed to. I have rediscovered liquid egg whites and now wonder why I stopped buying them. They are so so easy, and although I still have at least 1 egg yolk - they make my preparation so much quicker.
I have renewed my Pro Card and just waiting for that to be sent then I will confirm my competitions for this year. Im hoping to get away to 2 comps later on in the year so training is good and motivational. It was good to have the year off last year, although at times I wondered why I didnt aim for something but it was brilliant to get settled into my new job at Wolfs Gym and get work up and going a little bit. For now I am looking foward to heading over the Tony Dohertys Grand Prix event in March... I have some girls entering so that is going to be awesome.. it has a fitness expo as well, and the Pro Figure girls will be there so that will certainly be worth checking out.
This year it is all about time management and trying to cut down my stress so I am making a few changes to try to achieve that.. So fingers crossed I wont be running around like a headless chicken 7 days a week like I seem to always be doing.
Another change I have to get used to is my older son Brad and his partner Tom moved to Melbourne last week. Everybody knows that I think my kids are the best in the world, no arguing that, and my daughter lives in London and now Brad lives in Melbourne, leaving me with 12 year old Jordan at home. So not having cafe meals with Brad and Tom on a sunday and their sleepovers at my apartment is going to leave a gap in my life, but Im so happy for them that they have chosen to take a gamble and go find work and a home in Melbourne. The big plus is I cant wait to go and stay with them.. wahoo!!!
Well I must go. I have a team of people tomorrow who are in a corportate "Biggest Loser" challenge so have their body fat etc to do tomorrow. I have created abit of a home training programme for them and a walking/jogging programme to follow for 8 weeks. Im looking foward to seeing their results. Hopefully they will let me write about it on here so I can share some of their stories with you..
Ok, your probably thinking that I must not of made any new year resolutitions. Well I havent really but I have made some notes to myself of what I do want to achieve or change in 2011.
1. I want to compete - this is my 50th year and has been my goal to compete during this year so that will happen. Dont know where and when exactly yet but I will know soon..
2. I want to do my 50th birthday photo shoot with www.photoshoot.co.nz
I have had this planned for some time but really want to be close to contest shape for the pics to be amazingly effective so that will be around June/July
3. I want to get together with my friend Lisa in LA and also dream of a photo shoot with Stacey Pillari www.staceypillari.com by her husband Francesca
3. Im not going to kid myself by making ridiculous goals like planning to drive the north island or even driving over the harbour bridge, as anybody who knows me knows that driving is my pet hate, nor am I pretending that I can do the unthinkable like bungy jumping etc. My little goals are personal and more about being financially comfortable, stress free and being able to kick back sometimes.
4. I want to see my daughter this year, with her either coming here or me to her. I havent seen her for 18 months and it is far to long..
5. One more major goal but its too big to share right now.
Well thats about it from me for today.. I will write again later on this week. Its great to be back into writing again.. Lots to tell from the holidays really. xx
|Training at Les Mills during the holiday break||Tom, Jordie and Brad on the day the boys moved to Melbourne||Trying to stay Leanish over the silly season|
Here it is Xmas night.. It has been a gorgeous day.. Last night Xmas eve was a quiet one. Jordie stayed with me and also his friend Manuel who tends to have Xmas with us each year. Manuel is a very good friend of Jordans, brothers they call each other so he is always welcome at mine or Marks house. Last night I had candles all around the place, inside and out, the xmas music blaring, well that was when Akon and Michael Jackson wasnt on, and we had a really nice mellow evening. I went to bed far earlier than the boys actually who didnt end up going to bed at all. they stayed on the couches all nite.
Xmas morning began early when Mark picked Jordie, me and Manuel up at 7.45am to go out for breakfast to a hotel. Its so nice still getting on and enjoying Xmas together with Jordan...Jordan had decided to be with me for the day spending it with Brad so breakie was a nice start to the day.. We were booked in at 8am - too early for me really but the meal was nice and was a nice outing too. It was actually nice giving Jordie a good time and not having to cook and prepare food as well but Im still unsure whether I like going out or staying at home amongst my favourite things around me - I really am a homebody.
I was home again from breakie before 10.00 called my sisters and girlfriends for a xmas chat before getting prepared to head of again to Xmas dinner with Brad and Tom and Jordie. I picked Jordie up from Mark and Jordie and I headed over to Toms where we had a lovely afternoon of wine, and xmas food. It was moderation for me, more cos I was driving and could not have much to drink but the food was moderate for me too..I had turkey, ham a couple of potatoes and stuffing.. yum, and also I had some of my trifle and my special Baileys Pavlova...... now that is my xmas favourite. I was just nicely comfortable all afternoon, and even now at 11pm I still havent eaten since our lunch. Im actually feeling really good, abit tired but all rearing to go for my stadium bootcamp in the moring where I am expecting a good dozen people or so.. but we shall see.
Tuesday I am doing something special with Brad, Jordie and Tom. I have booked a trip for us to Tree Adventures on Monday and that is going to be some experience. for somebody who can stand heights from a normal dining chair height, this will prove almost impossible to conquer but I shall see how we all do together. I just keep thinking that it wont kill me, and I may even enjoy it, so I shall let you know on Tuesday.. lol. If I make it back that is.
WEll that winds it up. I got beautiful pressies for Xmas. I feel so spoilt after only just having my birthday a month ago.. Im kinda looking forward to seeing what 2011 brings...... What can I make happen this year....
|Mark took us out for Xmas breakfast which was a nice start to the day..||Jordie and I spent the afternoon at Toms mothers home, here I am with Brad and Tom||Agh my two gorgeous boys, just my beautiful daughter missing.|
This week has been incredibly busy with work, Much of the time I felt like I was running around like a headless chicken getting from work and home again for appointments. And being that time of year there have been many cancellations but alot of fill ins as well so Im ashamed to say I mucked up my calendar on more than a few occasions - still everything all worked out in the end. I had two new clients start this week, both with contest goals and both were ballet dancers as well. One of the girls was an email client of mine and she has waited since March for her session with me which was a birthday present to her from her husband. I felt pretty chuffed to hear that. She doesnt live in Auckland so our session was sceduled in for this weekend when she had to come up for a course. We had a brilliant time and I really loved meeting her. My regular clients are all rearing to go for Xmas. They all seem to be on a roll at present as they have stepped up the training and cardio a little in an effort to enjoy Xmas. I like to see abit of forward planning so Im pretty rapt with the results that they are getting.
Whats happening with my training and goals. Well not alot really. Im still training but by myself for the time being. Im finding it hard to stick to my sceduled time with my training partner Dylan as work is busy so I am trying to fit in training during the day. I actually enjoyed it this week by myself but I need to sort myself out for next year and see what I want to do in regards to competition.
Im making a concerned effort to get my run in every day this week. I did 50 mins this morning and ready to hit the streets again but for a walk this time. My indulgences over the last month have me feeling a little heavier than usual and it is time to hit the Keto diet again over the next 2 weeks in the lead up till xmas day. I have gone carb free today and followed a keto type diet although I made myself a massive omelette for lunch which was stuffed with deli brought roast chicken - I had to add some cranberry sauce on it and it was devine. Actually when my girlfriend Debbie stayed with me last week from Chch, we went for a walk over to the Corbans Estate next door and they have an outdoor knitting exhibition there at present.. Can you imagine knitting a cover for a birdbath and umbrellas etc. The workmanship was very very clever and I have added one picture here to show you.. I was very impressed and almost tempted to get my knitting needles out again.
Well that is about it for now. Hope you are all setting your goals for next year. I have a team of girls and guys getting fired up to compete over in the regional part of Tony Dohorty's Grand Prix weekend on March 12th + 13th. So let me know if your wanting to train for this event and needing some help.. This is going to be an awesome weekend and you'd be mad to miss it, whether your competing or not... www.fitx.com.au

The first weekend was celebrating with my sisters, the second weekend was celebrating with Pauline and Steve for Paulines birthday also, and the 3rd weekend was my birthday party put on by Rachie with all my friends. They were all late late night with lots of alchohol which is rare for me but with no comp plans it was all ok. I got spoilt rotten with pressies and loved every one of the nights out even though it took 2-3 days to get over each occasion.
Well what does a 50 year old get for presents, definately not incontinence pants etc like you would think.
I got the most beaufiful art deco lamp, 1 x jewellery box, 1 x IPOD touch, 1 fantastic phone which I lost after 5 days during one of my drinking nights out, 1 pamper voucher, Mia Saachi vouchers, variety of make up and fragrances, 1 gorgeous painting of a print that I had, 1 hand drawn pic of me from a client, 1 grubby magazine, 2 gorgeous necklaces, 1 devine bracelot, 1 pair of earrings, 1 hermes scarf, 3 bunches of flowers, 1 bottle of champers, 2-3 bottles of wine, 3 gorgeous meals out and loads of love from my family and friends and many many memories of good times and special moments of being with those who I love..
So I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to each and every one of you who made this every special for me. The time I had with my sisters was very special.. Its not often we get together now that my Mum and Dad are no longer with us. And the weekend with my girlfriend Debbie was equally special. Its been a long time since we lazed around doing nothing cept enjoy each other company, laughing about our stories of when we were young new mums.. Anyway that about wraps up my birthday report. No stories about drunken antics out on the town.. what goes on tour stays on tour xxxx
