No Trainng No Muscle Growth

Written by  Jo Stewart
Its been a strange week this one. For one I have had the week off training. Well to be exact I trained on Monday morning - legs - and not a hard workout, just a pleasant one, and I taught Pump on Tuesday over at Harbour Fitness Glenfield www.harbourfitness.co.nz which is always a brillant class and a brillant workout too.
Ive not been running ether - outdoor I mean but have done two treadmill workouts which I hate. I cant bare to be inside when I can be running outdoors but the idea is to give my joints abit of a break for a while. I must say it is hard to get motivated when I cant do what normally do and that is to run pretty much 4 times a week. Having the week off training has been nice. It means once I'm home from work during the day, then I dont have to go back to work. Now thats always good.

Club Physical is doing huge renovations at our gym and it is a noisy dusty mess at the moment, but it is actually going to be very good when finshed. Im liking it better already.

Now with the time off running and training I feel soft already and I feel fat and yuk and have been even more hungry than when I train. This is where common sense prevails and yesterday I had to battle it out in my mind and I saw the light. Cos I havent been training and doing the 2 sessions per day that I normally do, I have been dropping my protein and I had cut my calories dramatically and substituted my protein for fruit (feijoas mainly) which I overdosed on one day and was very sick - never again.. Because I wasnt training, but I still had the same muscle mass as last week when was training, I was actually depriving my body of the protein it required to maintain my mass so in turn my metabolism slowed down. Yeah it all happens quickly. So yesterday sick of feeling soft, I got back into my 5-6 meals per day and next week will be training again and Im running tomorrow for mothers day even if it is one crutches.

Thank you so much to everybody who has been writing to me about my numb hands. It is still driving me crazy but seems to be not so severe this week and I have been sleeping through longer before they start playing up. I go back to the doc next monday after having tests done so that will be interesting. Physio has been good working on other areas so thats gotta be helpful in the end.

That reminds me, I was telling a client the other day about the many situations in my bodybuilding career where I could of thrown in the towell for reasons one or the other but I always kept my determination strong. Once I pulled my calf muscle and it was strapped for 2 weeks. I used to sit on the stationery bike 2 or 3 times a day with the seat so high so that my strapped up leg would be straight and the other I would slightly bend. It was so uncomfortable and my fanny used to ache every minute.. I would sit on cushions or whatever just to take the pressure off that area. Nowadays Id like any kind of pressure around that area full stop lol. Anyway at the time we were also living in a very big home and I would peg leg it round and round and round the house just to burn some more calories. It was very time consuming, and depressing as I still worked full time at the gym and had two young children. But I still made my comp and won the comp. Ive got lots more stories like this to tell coming up on site. I must go. I have a full day of work, competition girls mostly and Mothers Day tomorrow. Another day of spending time with my sons. I miss my daughter heaps.
