Wow 6 weeks till show time!! What a journey I have been on and still a long way to go. I look back at when I first started to now and am amazed myself at how far I have come and how I have managed to transform my body!!

Believe me this hasn't been an easy journey. There has been lots of hungry days and nights, lots of lows and highs, lots of tears and lots of sore muscles. But 6 months on I'm still humming along!

Some days I wonder myself where I get the energy to do have the things I do in one day! Up at 5.30 in the morning doing cardio, at work by 7.00 am, HIT session in the police gym during my half hour break, weight training after work, then cardio later on in the evening usually with my husband, followed by preparing meals for the next day. Most nights I am So whacked I Amin bed by 9pm.

Speaking of husbands, mine has been very patient and supportive. O believe me he has had his moments and I have had mine but then he remembers what I am trying to do and achieve and gives me his full support, which is great!! Keep eating your lollies at the shop Jon and don't bring them home.:-)

And speaking of support, I am so lucky that my colleagues and friends are so supportive at work! Allowing training to break so I can have my meals on time! Not buying me donuts when some one has to shout and always interested in my progress, it's so cool!

Training has been hard lately as my training buddy Paul has been so busy with the new extension of pumping iron gym so have had to motivate myself to get stuck into my training. Was ok and did it but looking forward to training with him again or at least having him push me through some workouts. He who has the knowledge and experience. So need to the ante more now and go harder!!

Am glad to have Teish competing in the same competition as well. Thank goodness I'm not competing against her, she is looking wicked! It is nice to be able to support one another in so many different ways on our journey! We rock! Lol

My diet is constantly changing to ensure I get the maximum results. So far so good! And my body's going through some major changes too. So much so I'm having trouble finding my boobs!! They are disappearing too but its all worth it! They will be back! My backs pretty lean at the moment, obliques are really starting to show and slowly my body is getting hard. Still a lot of work to do in the next 6 weeks and would love to see my legs do something amazing!

So as of Saturday 30th of June I was down to 10.3% body fat! Wow!!

Loving this journey and the amazing people in it, so respect those who have competed because it ain't easy!! Whoop whoop!

Long time No See

It been a while seen my last blog and only because the May competition was cancelled so I took it easy for a few weeks so I don't peak too soon. Back into full swing now!!

Wow 15 weeks to go until my first comp. So many things to do now!! I brought my material for my bikini last weekend and that was a mission in itself. I love the color and that it has bling!! Found the shoes I wanted online and they are being shipped from America. My music is being sorted by one of the guys from work (DJ Mike you rock) and my choreographer has been organized to go through my routine with me in two weeks time after posing practice with Jo!

So I was in Auckland yesterday for training with Jo at wolfs gym, and I had posing practice. Slowly getting it but far out there's so much into perfecting every little move, adding little fancy grooves and trying look natural while keeping your balance. Thank you Jo for being such an awesome teacher and so so patient!

Whoop Whoop

I nearly forgot.....my results! The most important part!!! Stoked again with these results. So now with 15 weeks to go I am down to 14% body fat so have lost another 2.5kg of body fat and still have another 5kg to go. I increased my lean muscle by just under a kilo. So still need to increase that muscle some more so working on that this fortnight. Slowly noticing more changes in my body as I loose the body fat, yay!

I do have to say I am so lucky that I have so much support and supportive people around me including at home, work and at Pumping Iron Gym to keep me motivated and focused.

Two weeks till my next testing session with Jo so watch this space and let's see what numbers I can pull then...whoop whoop!!!

Belinda Brophy 21 weeks to competition

..Blah! Sad and Tired

It's only been a week since my last post but its been full on!!! Been a busy and frustrating week at work but will solider on and let the sun continue to shine in my life! Haha..

Has been a long week for some strange reason and ive been really tired, hungry and emotional this week. So slowed down and cut back on cardio this week to allow my muscles to rest. As for the hungry part, well I fed my body with a little more food..good food tho! Seems to have helped. The good thing is that I do listen to my body and when it screams at me to slow down or stop I do. Aloof the abbé sorted the emotional stuff. Sunday's are my day of rest. Whoop whoop.

Had another awesome workout with Paul at Pumping Iron Gym this morning who shows no mercy, and then an awesome posing session with Teish afterwards. This time we wore heels to practice in and it wasn't easy.

Actually makes you realize that not only is bodybuilding a sport that requires dedication, commitment and hard-work but also that there is actually an art to everything you do whether it be standing still, transitioning from one move to the next and tensing every muscle in your body. It all looks so easy when your watching it on tv!!

Far from easy tho. I find that every time I walk past a mirror I look and pose! So guys I'm not being vain, just that practice makes perfect so any and every opportunity I get, BOOM!!! So just after one week I can see the difference...can you???

Belinda Brophy 22 weeks to competition

22 weeks until first competition in Auckland

Its been 2 weeks since my last measurements and i am now down to 16% body fat! Yay still well on track! Had a wicked and hard training session with Jo on Saturday at Wolfs Gym in Henderson and teamed up with the gorgeous Teish Paton also from Whangarei who is also competing in August.

So not only did we train but we had a posing session after training! Teish had shown me some poses that she had learnt and we had a little session at Pumping Iron Gym in Whangarei. I felt uncoordinated then!! Far out who ever thought that posing would be so hard!!

Well hello there abs

So now here I am in Auckland being taught by Jo how to pose! It was like learning a whole new language! So many things to remember, so many things to do, squeeze, tense, tighten, lift, eek!!! And I still had to smile while trying to do all of that. This wasn't easy at all! And I definitely wasn't posing gracefully!

The exciting part was that at 16% body fat you start to see the different muscles in your body and learn to work them and show them off while posing. So as you lose more body fat you get to see more defined muscles and that's cool!! I must say I was very impressed with my abs and my triceps. Muscles i didn't even have 14 weeks ago.

So after a two and an half hour session training and posing session I was whacked!! However
I did come out of there having an even bigger appreciation of the time, commitment and dedication that this sport takes!

So I head home thinking that posing practice needs to become a priority in my busy schedule. And where am I going to find time to do that?? The funny thing is I will find time, even if it's just for five minutes a day, something will be better than nothing!! Because when I get on that stage I want to ROCK!!!

Goodbye spare time!

So practise practise,  practise i shall do!!! Hopefully by my next posing session with Jo in Auckland I will be moving a lot more gracefully than what was doing on Sa turday and have more defined muscles too!!
Watch this space, whoop whoop!!!

Belinda Brophy

JUST THE BEGINNING

WOW... If any one had told me last year that in 2012 I would be working towards competing in my first bodybuilding competition I would have laughed at them.... Mmmm actually I probably would have cried! That's because last year I could hardly walk, couldn't drive, suffered from severe nausea and severe muscle spasms in my neck and back and was in a lot of pain. The worst thing was the professionals couldn't tell me what was wrong! Turns out I had a prolapsed disc in my neck with nerve impingement!!!! So every time I started to feel better and tried to run I just upset it again.
That injury took me out of action for about 9 months of 2011, and worst still, I turned 40 that year! It was going to be my year! So much for norty forties! Just as well  I've still got 9 long years before nifty fifties!! Whoop whoop!

Sorting the Spasms

So to get rid of the bad muscle spasms my neck surgeon told me to try weight lifting. So I thought if Im going to do weight training I might as well be doing something with it. So then came the thought of a new challenge and a new goal. I was going to compete in a bodybuilding comp in 6 months!! I was on a MISSION!!!! Funny because at the time I had no idea if that was even possible! But I was going to do it or try and do it.
So needed to find a gym and a trainer to get me started. Did a little research which then lead me to Pumping Iron Gym on Reyburn Street, Whangarei. First person to greet me was the owner Paul Paton, who straight away made me feel welcome and told me they could help me.
So this is where my journey began. Armed with a personal trainer I was away!!
It took me a little while to get the gist of weight training because id never done anything like that before and to build up the strength I had lost when I was injured, but got there slowly. Now I am on fire!
Last year it was suggested that I get the help of Jo as she could get me to where I wanted to be. So off I went to Wolfs gym in Henderson to meet and train with Jo. Best thing I ever done!

Results Driven

My first visit with Jo was on the 12/12/2011. As of the 18/02/2012 I have gained 8.5kg of lean muscle and lost 6.5kg of body fat!! Wow that's like 13 pounds of butter I've lost. So at the moment I am sitting at 17% body fat with my first comp now in August.
I remember one day when I was training with Paul and I said to him ' this is so hard'! He said to me yep you didn't pick the easiest sport!! Far out he was so right! Results weren't coming as fast as I wanted them to and I was working hard. There were days I could hardly walk cause my muscles were so sore! I didn't get any sympathy either! Every time I said something was sore they said good!!! What??? How could that be good!  I slowly started feeling stronger and things werent so sore and as the body fat started to fall off I started to notice little changes.
So my busy life just got busier! Boss, Wife, mother, grandmother, cook, cleaner, taxi driver, Training 5-6 times a week, cardio on top of that, working full time and studying to advance my career! Wow how do I do that! I just do!
I'm loving being on this mission and the journey I'm on. I have met some wonderful supportive people and feel very lucky to be trained by one of the best.
Still have a long way to go but watch this space.....Whoop whoop!!!!
